In 1949,a group led by a young Miles Davis went into capitol studios to record. Featuring the unique writing skills of Gerry Mulligan, JohnLewis and Gil Evans, the music they recorded between January 1949 and March 1950 was to become the classic album 'Birth Of The Cool'. Offeringa different sound to some of the frenzy of bebop, the album featuredlush melodies and rich harmonies and textures.

The instrumentation featured the emerging talents of Miles Davis on trumpet, Gerry Mulligan on Baritone sax and Lee Konitz on Alto Sax. Another unusual feature of the group was the use of French horn and Tuba (the amazing Bill barber). At Bennetts Lane Jazz club on Sunday June 10th, there is the unique opportunity to hear this music played by some of Melbourne’s finest musicians.

Led by Gianni Marinucci on trumpet, and featuring the original arrangements from the recording, the nonet will create its own version of this timeless classic. A unique event not to be missed.
